Audition Week

I am so proud of all of my drama students.  As soon as we got back from Winter break we did not waist anytime! We went straight to work 🙂

In Eighth Grade students performed their monologues for their classmates.  We will be finishing those up next week. I have been so impressed with the monologues I have watched so far. Bravo!!  Eighth graders have also been preparing themselves for their Spring musical audition.  I am proud to announce the eighth grade musical, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”! Please mark your calendars for Thursday May 11th and Friday May 12th.  Students auditioned for their music portion first followed by their drama portion. This consisted of a cold reading of a monologue as well as auditioning with their prepared monologue that they have to perform in drama class.   The choreography audition was on Wednesday during flex.  Call back will be next week.  I am looking forward to casting and getting started with the musical!!!

In Seventh Grade we have started our Shakespeare unit!  This week students auditioned for “Romeo and Juliet”! I was so proud of how well they did auditioning. It is important that students get an opportunity to speak Shakespeare. Therefore , in some cases there will be multiple actors playing one role.  Some characters will not. It just depends on how I cast. Section 7-1 will do the first half of the play and 7-2 will do the second half.  We also watched Scene night in class.  This way we can give ourselves constructive criticism and learn what we can do differently during the performance of “Romeo and Juliet”.

In Sixth Grade students auditioned for the sixth grade musical “Dear Edwina Junior”! I was so proud of how everyone did.  During the audition students had to do a cold reading from the script.  We also watched Scene Night in class. It was a great opportunity to see how wonderful everyone did and what they can personally grow in and improve on for their musical performance.

In Fifth grade we have been working on characterization for “Lewis and Clark”! It has been fun to watch the character development in class during some improvisation that we did this week.  Students also reviewed their stage directions because next week we are going to start blocking our scenes! Please help your children run their lines, cue lines and music!
